Abstract | Many data collections at the NASA Global Hydrology Resource Center (GHRC) Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) are inherently heterogeneous, as projects like field campaigns have data collected by multiple instruments producing data stored using various data formats. Data discoverability is more challenging due to the wide data variety. To better handle dataset publication processes, including Principal Investigator (PI) communication, metadata quality, and dataset documentation, the NASA GHRC DAAC instituted the Data Publication Workflow Portal named DAPPeR. This tool is a variation of SAuS developed and used by the NASA Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) DAAC. DAPPeR helps GHRC ensure consistent and accurate dataset metadata allowing for improved data discoverability. The DAPPeR tool can also be used to efficiently improve the metadata for already published datasets, bringing the information up to current NASA metadata standards. This presentation will highlight how the NASA GHRC DAAC uses DAPPeR to perform dataset publication, generate and update dataset metadata, improve data holdings, and increase data publication productivity, as well as future plans for tool improvements. Both DAPPeR and SAuS concepts are being utilized in development of more generic DAAC data publication tool components currently in development. |
