Kaylin Bugbee, an ITSC staff member, presented a poster entitled "Spatial Analysis of Sediment Persistence: How Tropical Cyclone Events Affect Sedimentation in the Gulf of Mexico”, at the Geo-Energy Summit held at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Al on November 11-13, 2014. The poster presented information based on Kaylin’s recent student research efforts.
ITSC staff members Helen Conover and Kaylin Bugbee made a presentation on Nov 5 at the NASA/UAH Weekly Seminar Series, which is also a graduate course in UAH’s Atmospheric Sciences department (ATS 780). They provided an overview of Global Hydrology Resource Center’s (GHRC) data and services, and answered student questions about how to obtain data from GHRC and NASA data systems. ITSC operates the GHRC, a NASA distributed active archive center (DAAC) on campus at the National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC).

GHRC DAAC and AMSR SIPS hosted visitors from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on Nov 6-7. Ms. Satoko Miura and Mr. Hiroo Kii are with the JAXA Mission Operations System (MOS) office. Presentations provided an overview of the MOS organization, as well as operations at GHRC and SIPS. Discussions included hardware, software, and operations management, as well as logistics for obtaining AMSR2 Level-1R data from JAXA in near real time for AMSR2 LANCE activities.
Dr. Sara Graves, ITSC Director, attended the International Conference on Data Sharing and Integration for Global Sustainability (SciDataCon), co-sponsored by the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) and the World Data System (WDS), interdisciplinary committees of the International Council for Science (ICSU). The CODATA General Assembly includes representatives of WDS and the international Research Data Alliance (RDA). GHRC has updated the GPM Ground Validation UND Citation Cloud Microphysics MC3E dataset with corrections of the vertical wind component and liquid water content files for data obtained while flying in ice crystals and mixed phase atmospheric conditions. These measurements were made from a suite of in situ instruments located on the University of North Dakota (UND) Cessna Citation aircraft, an airborne platform for the MC3E campaign.
