Description:

UAH’s data mining tool, ADaM (Algorithm Development and Mining system), is being applied to numerical model output data generated at NASA's Goddard Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO). These independent experiments focus on the automated detection and mining of atmospheric phenomena within the model data.

The GMAO has the potential to produce an order of magnitude more data per day than currently generated by Terra and Aqua combined. To maintain an information extraction capability that parallels the modeling capabilities, the Information Technology and Systems Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (ITSC/UAH) has teamed with Goddard’s DAO and Simpson Weather Associates (SWA) to apply data mining tools to the analysis and information extraction of numerical model output data generated at the GMAO.
