GHRC is supporting the ongoing Global Precipitation Mission (GPM) Ground Validation Iowa Flood Studies (IFloodS) Field Experiment with a collaboration portal for the mission science team which provides for near-real time data acquisition; data access, visualization and map-based display; and science and instrument status reports. IFloodS is featured on the EarthData web site as the DAAC Image of the Week.
GHRC has released GPM Ground Validation Airborne Second Generation Precipitation Radar (APR-2) GCPEx dataset. The Second Generation Airborne Precipitation Radar (APR-2) is a dual-frequency (13 GHz and 35 GHz), Doppler, dual-polarization radar system. It has a downward looking antenna that performs cross track scans, covering a swath that is +/- 25 to each side of the aircraft path.
GHRC has completed documentation for the MC3E GPM Ground Validation Chill and Pawnee Radar datasets. These radar were located at the CSU-CHILL location were collected to support the NASA ER-2 instrumentation for the Midlatitude Continental Convective Clouds Experiment (MC3E), a GPM Ground Validation field campaign.
The GHRC has completed the MSFC-mandated upgrade of all web servers to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). IPv6 was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to deal with the long-anticipated problem of IPv4 address exhaustion.
The official start of the Global Precipitation Mission (GPM) Ground Validation Iowa Flood Studies (IFloodS) Field Experiment begins on May 1, 2013. See https://ghrc.nsstc.nasa.gov/home/field-campaigns/ifloods for the experiment overview. To support the scientists in the field, the GHRC has developed a Drupal-based collaboration portal complete with instrument status reports, weather forecasts, schedules, mission reports, documents, and links to external datasets. Numerous datasets and browse images have been in
GHRC has released the GPM Ground Validation Meteorological Tower Environment Canada GCPEx dataset as part of the GPM Cold-season Precipitation Experiment (GCPEx) where data was gathered over the Ontario region of Canada in 2012 from Jan 15 through March 1. This dataset provides temperature, relative humidity, 10m winds, pressure and solar radiation data collected by a suite of standard meteorological instruments attached to a 10m met tower. The observation station was assembled by
Dr. Sara Graves represented the GHRC at the International Council for Science : Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) Executive Committee meeting in Paris the week of April 14th as the Secretary General of CODATA. There were discussions with Dr.
GHRC has published the GPM Ground Validation Pluvio Precipitation Gauge GCPEx. The Pluvio rain gauge dataset contains both one minute measurement and a cumulative record of the accumulation and intensity for liquid, solid, and mixed precipitation collected during the GPM Cold-season Precipitation Experiment (GCPEx). GCPEx took place in Ontario, Canada during the Winter season December 2011- February 2012 where data was collected at five sites:
