Ken Keiser (UAH/ITSC) attended the GEOSS Future Products Workshop 2013, held March 26-28 at the NOAA Science Center in Silver Spring, MD. This workshop provided a unique opportunity to learn how GEOSS as a platform makes all sorts of sensor and model data available in an interoperable manner, with a particular focus on Sensor Web and Model Web. Ken presented "Data Preparedness for Disasters and Events", a project funded by the NASA Applied Science program.
Rahul Ramachandran (UAH/ITSC) represented GHRC at the first plenary meeting of the newly formed Research Data Alliance, March 18-23 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The goal of the RDA is to accelerate international data-driven innovation and discovery through the development and adoption of infrastructure, policy, practice, standards, and other deliverables. RDA sponsors include the RDA/US activity funded by the National Science Foundation, as well as the European Commission and Australia. Dr. Ramachandran will be leading a Big Data Working Group within RDA.
At UAH, work is ongoing to put the school on the cutting edge of cyber security. Dr. Sara Graves, Director of UAH Information Technology & Systems Center, attended NASA’s Gulf of Mexico Initiative (GOMI) ROSES Closeout Workshop in New Orleans. The workshop was held on January 23 – 25, 2013 to present the results of the 48 projects funded by the ROSES 2008 A.28 and 2009 A.40 solicitations. Dr. Graves presented the Sediment Analysis Network for Decision Support (SANDS) a collaboration among ITSC and the Geological Survey of Alabama to generate enhanced imagery that depict suspended sediments resulting from selected hurricanes impacting the Gulf Coast.

Dr. Graves was honored with the Martha Maiden Award. This award was established in 2009 to recognize outstanding service to the Earth science information community. This award honors individuals who have demonstrated leadership, dedication and a collaborative spirit in advancing the field of Earth Science information.
